Don't Be So Sensitive!
Sensitive skin can be uncomfortable and problematic. Persistent sensitive skin may be due to a medical condition like eczema or rosacea, and may require medical attention. For most people, sensitive skin is a nagging condition that can be dealt with easily. All it takes is a little attention and care.
Some signs and symptoms of sensitive skin are:
- tight, tingling skin
- discomfort without any visible symptoms
- skin that reacts easily to external factors, such as shaving
- skin that reacts quickly to heat and cold
- prone to allergic reaction
If you have sensitive skin you need to be careful about what you put on your skin. Avoid antibacterial or botanical ingredients. Fragrant products often prompt allergic reactions, so look for fragrance free or unscented versions of your favorite lotions and creams. Some preservatives can be harsh on your
skin. Look for preservatives that contain parabens, as these will be less irritating. Solvents that are easily absorbed, like propylene glycol and ethanol, will not help your skin. Polyethylene glycol is better.
The best thing you can do for your skin is find the products that work best for you personally. Everyone's skin is different and a product that is perfect for one person may not be the best for you. When you are testing new products, it is a good idea to try them out on the inside of your wrist to see if your skin
will react before applying it to your face or other more sensitive areas.
If you find that your sensitive skin problems persist or are getting worse even after your medicine cabinet has been filled with various sensitive skin products, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. There may be a treatable medical condition at the root of the problem.
